As an urban repair project, the extension to the district and local court in Duisburg completes an urban block made up of striking individual volumes. With a moving brick base and a filigree superstructure, the base spans between the adjacent buildings from different periods and offers passers-by a new building on Königsstraße between the Liebfrauenkirche church and the brick building of the court complex. A varied urban form in terms of shape and material. In order to give the Liebfrauenkirche an appropriate space to work, the base has a clear caesura as a stepped section in the façade. Embedded in the existing buildings and respectful of the existing structure, the result is a contemporary building block with its own identity. In the court complex, the new building provides orientation and, with the canteen, a new point of reference for employees.
